Color Test
For the longest time, I didn’t have a name for this cocktail. It originated on a day where I had just picked up some new lighting equipment and wanted an excuse to try it out. I wanted to see how well the light would work in a dark room with a colorful drink so I created this cocktail to test it out, hence the name. I ended up enjoying it so much that I just wanted to get the photo over and done with so I could sit back and sip on this lovely concoction. You could see I rushed the photo as there is a reflection of me in the jigger.
This drink on the other hand didn’t feel rushed as at all. It is slightly on the sweeter side, but the Campari really gives it a nice follow through. You could find the recipe for the masala chai black tea + rose syrup in the supporting ingredients section of the laboratory. The spiciness of the rye whiskey blends well with the chai spices while the coconut and aquafaba provides a silky frothy texture. May you also enjoy this colorful cocktail from a Grey bar.
Ingredients
2 oz 100 proof rye whiskey (Rittenhouse)
.5 oz Campari
1 oz masala chai black tea and rose syrup
.75 oz lemon juice
.5 oz coconut milk
1 oz aquafaba (substitute for egg whites) Get this juice from a can of chickpea
Grated nutmeg, tamarind & dried rose bud garnish
Technique
Add rye whiskey, Campari, chai and rose syrup, lemon juice, coconut milk and aquafaba into a shaker.
Add ice(preferably 1 large 2” cubed ice) to the shaker and shake vigorously for approximately 20 seconds
Double strain into a coupe glass(I chose to use a rocks glass).
Grate nutmeg and sprinkle a dash of tamarind on the foam. Set a single dried rose bud in the center of the foam.
